From its Laurinburg, North Carolina office, Stonebend Capital Group handles funding requests sent from across Scotland County and nearby. The ZIP figures below cover postal areas rather than town limits, and Scotland County figures say nothing about towns in other counties.
Scotland County, NC Business Personal Property Listing and New Equipment
North Carolina requires owners of business personal property to list it with the county each year. The Scotland County business and personal property page (checked 2026-10-24) says property owned on January 1 must be listed during the January 1 to January 31 listing period, that a listing form is required for business personal property, and that late listing brings a penalty of 10% of the total tax levied. An extension request has to be made by January 31.
New equipment bought with an equipment loan or lease is part of that listing. Lenders financing equipment may ask whether it is listed and the taxes paid, and a buyer of a business should ask the seller for the latest listing. Confirm current rules with the tax office.
Scotland County, NC Tax Office Records Owners Keep for a Funding File
- The latest property tax bill for business equipment and any real property, from the online tax bill search.
- The business personal property listing filed for the current year.
- Proof of payment, or a payment plan, for any past-due taxes.
- For a business using an assumed name, the certificate filed with the Register of Deeds.
Those records answer common lender questions about whether the business is current on its obligations. The Scotland County Economic Development Corporation has a page on the county site; it does not take part in funding decisions.
Laurel Hill and Wagram, NC: ZIP Figures Without Separate Pages
Laurel Hill, NC, about 5.3 miles west-northwest of the Stonebend office, shares ZIP 28351, which had 43 employer establishments in 2023 (ZIP Business Patterns): 9 in retail trade, 6 in accommodation and food services, 5 in other services and 4 in health care. Laurel Hill covers only about 4.0% of that ZIP's land, so the count describes the ZIP rather than the community.
Wagram, NC, about 9.5 miles northeast, shares ZIP 28396, which had 28 employer establishments in 2023, 6 of them in retail trade and 4 each in construction and other services; half of the 28 had fewer than five employees. Wagram covers about 2.7% of that ZIP's land. Requests from either place follow the same steps as one from Laurinburg.
Hamlet, Rockingham and Raeford, NC: Neighboring Counties, Different Figures
Hamlet, NC and Rockingham, NC are in Richmond County, about 16.1 and 20.3 miles west-northwest of the office. ZIP 28345 (Hamlet) had 185 employer establishments in 2023 and ZIP 28379 (Rockingham) 529, but each city covers only a small part of its ZIP's land: about 7.4% and 5.0% (ZIP Business Patterns). Raeford, NC, about 19.3 miles northeast in Hoke County, covers about 1.5% of ZIP 28376, which had 447 employer establishments.
Scotland County figures on this site do not describe any of the three cities, which sit in other counties. Requests from them can be sent by phone or form like any other.
Aberdeen, NC in Moore County, NC: ZIP 28315 Figures Kept Apart
Aberdeen, NC, about 24.8 miles north of the office, is in Moore County, not Scotland County. ZIP 28315 had 424 employer establishments in 2023, led by retail trade with 88, accommodation and food services with 55 and construction with 45 (ZIP Business Patterns). Aberdeen covers about 15.2% of the ZIP's land, so those figures describe the ZIP area.
Moore County figures and Scotland County figures are kept apart on this site, and no Scotland County count describes Aberdeen. A business there can send a request the same way.
